This classic stone figure stands four and one eighth inches in height and dates from the Late Pre-Classic Mezcala Culture and dates from 500-100BC. It is hand hewn from a hard light colored grey/silver quartzite stone with streaks of white accenting the soft color and emits a silvery sparkle when held to the light.
It is a stylized geometric anthromorphic flat figure and originates from the State of Guerrero Mexico where it was most likely used as a burial item placed in the ground as an offering or protective spirit to accompany the deceased to the next level. The axe-form has cut grooves delineating the head, brow, torso, arms and legs. The back was polished to a flat surface. It has some minor ancient light re-grooving and light hand polish and is in excellent original condition with no restoration of any sort. I acquired a collection of thirteen stone pieces and sent them to a certified appraiser of antiquites preeminent in his field and fully licensed to make sure that there is absolutely no question about their age and authenticity. The complete paperwork will accompany the piece. I know there are many reproduction stone pieces on the market and a number of them are downright fakes so I felt it was worth the cost to have a truely qualified authority examine them and write a complete report. The purchaser will pay $15 which includes all shipping and handling and FedEx second day air to your door.
