Pre-Columbian 3 Bird Head To Tail Group Bead
In the 1960's a large number of caches of brown and black incised beads, or spindle whorls, were found in digs of the Manabi culture of Ecuador, dated 500 B.C. to 500 A.D.The greatest numbers were simply decorated with circles, dots and lines. A far smaller number depicted creatures that flew, ran or crawled, combinations of several of these, or fantasy figures. All were filled with a clay -like substance that accentuated the incised designs. We are offering a selection of these, the finest we've seen and selected from thousands. It is believed that the larger ones were spindle whorls, and the smaller ones strung as beads. This is a brown , three bird head to tail procession bead. Showing both sides. 14 mms. X 10 mms.
